About us
Hi! I'm Amanda, a disabled Chilean-American artist currently working in northern California.
For the long version of how we got here, see below.

I have always been an artist of some form or another. I got my degree in photography and life drawing/painting and then spent about 10 years tattooing before my body gave out on me. While attempting to rebuild my life after getting sick I was lucky enough to meet and marry my incredible husband, who has been the biggest champion of my crazy dream of being an artist. His support has given me the freedom to follow whatever inspiration hits me and it has allowed me to delve into all sorts of things, including wood and stone carving, needle felting, sewing, encaustic painting, embroidery...and it has ultimately led us, (we're still not quite sure how), to owning a small alpaca ranch in northern California.
And that's how we got to the first floof, our baby Coco Puff.

We raised him from 9 months old, adding to our little pack over time until we had 13 floofs of all ages. I learned every aspect of their care, and we handled everything ourselves, from shearing them, to spinning yarn from their fiber, and even preserving their pelts after they were gone. I began making wearables out of the yarn but got bored by knitting and finally managed to figure out crochet. And just like that I was off, crocheting constantly, everything I could imagine and some things I couldn't, (a nephew obsessed with Minecraft and a niece obsessed with Taylor Swift make for odd gift requests).
Somewhere in there I started making micro crochet earrings and were a hit! So I decided to start my little business properly and thus Floofs and Spoons was born. Floofs for my fluffy alpacas and Spoons as a nod to the chronic illness spoon theory, which has helped me immensely to manage my life with disabilities.

I am always open for custom orders and commissions. If you see something you'd like but in a different color, a different size, or you'd prefer gold plated to stainless steel, just send a message and I'll make it happen! I also love funky challenges, so if you have a crazy idea reach out and I'll see what I can come up with!
